About SpaceWeatherLive

Who’s behind SpaceWeatherLive?

SpaceWeatherLive is an initiative of Parsec vzw, a non-profit organization from Belgium which consists of several websites about astronomy, space, space weather, aurora and related subjects. Our organization promotes these scientific branches onto the world wide web/app. Like our organization, it is driven with the help of many volunteers who spend a part of their free time in the development of the website and app and in providing updates, making articles or translate the website and app.

A bit of history…

Long before SpaceWeatherLive even existed there was a Dutch astronomy website, called Spacepage which is also a part of our organization Parsec vzw. Back in 2003, Spacepage provided some space weather information on the site with some basic data. That bit of information however grew steadily until it got too big for the Spacepage website. In 2005, the space weather part of Spacepage got its own Dutch domain Poollicht.be in 2005. The whole space weather website was then only available in the Dutch language. People loved the fact that they had a space weather website in their native language and the whole website was transformed into a multi-lingual website which was launched in 2008 with three available languages (Dutch, English and French) and the more international name SpaceWeatherLive was born.In September 2018 the SpaceWeatherLive app was launched for iOS and Android which brought the website to the world of Apps with unique features that couldn’t be found on the mobile website. It quickly became a loved app for many aurora and space weather enthusiasts with great reviews on both platforms.

Years and years of continuously improving and extending SpaceWeatherLive made it one of the biggest Space Weather websites and apps on the internet with ten thousands of visitors per day and an ever growing set of unique features and languages to bring everyone the latest and best Space Weather data, news, alerts, information and so much more.
